Hostages

On October 7, 2023, during a Hamas-led attack on Israel that marked the start of the Israel–Hamas war, Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups abducted 251 people from Israel to the Gaza Strip. The hostages include children, women, and elderly individuals. Nearly half of the captives are foreign nationals or hold dual citizenship, and some are Negev Bedouins. The exact proportion of soldiers and civilians among the hostages remains unclear. It is believed that the captives are being held in multiple locations throughout the Gaza Strip.
